Dr Rita Bissoonauth
Dr Rita Bissoonauth presently heads the African Union International Centre for Girls and Women’s Education in Africa (AU/CIEFFA) based in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Before moving to Ouagadougou, she lived in Addis Ababa for seven years where she worked for the African Union Commission in the Education Division. She has worked at the Mauritius Institute of Education as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Science Education where she was lecturing on Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Teaching of science. She graduated from the University of Quebec in Montreal in Canada and from University of Claude Bernard, Lyon, France.
AU/CIEFFA is a specialized institution of the African Union, whose mission is to contribute to build an integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa by ensuring that all girls and women have the required competencies to respond to life challenges, as well as sustaining Africa’s sustainable development.
